New York Congressman Jerry Nadler has called for a committee vote to push forward a bill that would decriminalize marijuana nationwide. It would remove the drug from the federal Controlled Substances Act and allow states to set their own policies. CBSN New York’s Tony Aiello reports.
The House Judiciary Committee passed a bill that would legalize marijuana on the national level and it would give states the right to decide their own policies as well as incentives to expunge the criminal records of those with low-level marijuana offenses. The next step for the bill is to pass the full House.

Illinois` Roman Catholic bishops have taken a stand against legalizing recreational use of marijuana. The six bishops issued a statement Monday that they oppose legalization because they are “committed to the common good.”
The issue of legalizing marijuana was the top question for President Obama during his You Tube Q&A event. The President didn’t budge, as he said during the same event in 2009, that he is not in favor of legalizing marijuana.
