Cannabis News: Mississippi’s Medical Cannabis System Could Be At Risk

Mississippi’s medical cannabis system seems to be at risk only days following Gov. Tate Reeves signing a new bill into law that legalized it statewide. The Tennessee Valley Authority has indicated that it might restrict electrical power to cannabis-growing or-distributing firms in Mississippi, regardless of if the operators are within state statute, because the utility provider is fixated on federal policies.

Tennessee Representative Steve Cohen, in a memo to the TVA, called the agency’s view on the matter “outdated” and “an affront” to the vast majority of the voting public and state legislators who advanced statewide medical cannabis policy reform. TVA should implement updated policies right away, according to Cohen, and Mississippi’s medical cannabis system should be left undisturbed.

How will this affect Mississippi’s very new medical cannabis program? Should utility companies adhere to state or federal laws?
