SAN ANTONIO – State Senator Roland Gutierrez filed a bill to legalize marijuana in Texas Monday, saying he thinks we should regulate a product “that is already out there.”
Gutierrez filed SB 140 Monday, seeking to legalize cannabis, following the footsteps of 36 other states.
“We can create 30,000 jobs in this industry, in farming, in manufacturing, in distribution and retail,” Gutierrez explained.
He said his bill will help create revenue in an already struggling economy due to COVID-19. He also said Texas had $5 billion deficit and expects the number will inch closer to $7 billion this January.
