During the next legislative session, a key Republican Indiana legislator in the state House has indicated that she will introduce a proposal for statewide adult-use and medical cannabis legalization.
Rep. Cindy Ziemke’s (R) proposal would legalize cannabis for adults 21 years or older and establish a controlled revenue model, similar to Michigan’s cannabis statutes. In addition, it would create a statewide medical cannabis system.
Although the proposal’s wording isn’t yet public, the legislator informed the Indianapolis Business Journal that it would establish a state committee to control the industry, grant cannabis company permits, and levy a tax on cannabis purchases, with the proceeds going to public health programs.
