In Ohio, two Republican lawmakers have filed a bill to legalize adult-use cannabis. Representatives Jamie Callender and Ron Ferguson submitted the ‘Ohio Adult Use Act’ last Thursday. Ohio has had a medical cannabis program since 2016, and around 100,000 people participate.
Through a new Division of Marijuana Control, the state Department of Commerce would be in charge of regulating the new adult-use marijuana program and the existing medical cannabis program and awarding company licenses.
Regulators would be limited to approving one retail cannabis dispensary license per 60,000 residents in the state up until January 1, 2027.
Additionally, unlike many other recent cannabis bills introduced, this legislation does not have a social equity piece to it.
