Cannabis News: Politicians In Germany Have Agreed Upon Federal Cannabis Legalization Measures

Politicians in Germany’s next governing party have agreed upon federal cannabis legalization measures.

In the forthcoming legislative session, cannabis legalization measures are anticipated to be submitted. Legislation would also expand substance harm prevention programs and prohibit alcohol, tobacco, and cannabis marketing. Private cannabis possession is currently decriminalized throughout Germany, and a medical cannabis system exists. The upcoming bill would aim to create a controlled recreational cannabis industry.

The group of political parties, which includes the Greens, the Free Democratic Party, and the Social Democratic Party of Germany, argues that controlling cannabis commerce will aid in reducing illegal trade. That would be reviewed 4 years after legalization, when an assessment of the legislation’s societal influences would be undertaken.
