Cannabis News: Michigan Home Grow Restrictions

Since 2008, Michigan caregivers have been providing medical cannabis to qualified patients. Now, after more than a decade, on October 19, 2021, Michigan moved to restrict cannabis cultivation with a package of 6 bills that moved out of committee.

Said Ryan Bringold, a caregiver from Waterford, Michigan, “We will not quit. These big-money investors, they have made a power move.”

This Specialty Medical Growers license would impact caregivers with multiple patients by forcing them to apply to maintain their current cultivation rate.

Other parts of the bill include requiring a tracking system to be used by these Specialty Medical Growers and updating the definition of a debilitating medical condition in the health code.

In order for these bills to pass, 75% must pass support in the House and Senate, and Governor Whitmer would also need to sign.
