The decade’s long push for marijuana reforms culminates on August 31 with a historic amendment to Saint Lucia’s drugs prevention laws. For the first time, legislators will debate a proposal to decriminalize cannabis possession in Parliament. The groundbreaking amendment will permit adults to carry a maximum of 30 grams without the threat of criminal prosecution. Pro-cannabis advocate Andre de Caires says the J Pierre Administration’s cannabis reforms should also come with regulatory guidelines to prevent abuse.
