An individual may lawfully own a gun and consume cannabis, but cannabis users are unable to buy a gun because the plant is illegal on the federal level.
The proposal takes aim at this specific inquiry in the Firearms Transaction Record: “Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?” it reads.
The proposed measure would permit residents that consume cannabis in states where it is legalized to purchase a gun.
John Boch is the executive director of the Guns Save Life organization, which calls itself a “gun advocacy group” that believes “gun control is race control.” Boch claims the proposal will possibly pass thanks to Republican backing, and that federal cannabis legalization is coming.
