The UN commission has reclassified marijuana,… removing it from its most strict drug control list.
Marijuana had been on that list, which includes dangerous and addictive drugs like heroin, for 59 years.
The UN vote follows a recommendation from the WHO.
The health agency cited the drug’s therapeutic benefits in the treatment of some illnesses.
Marijuana is still largely illegal in countries.
But the latest change in international recognition of the drug,… will open up greater research and development in marijuana’s potential medical use.
Cannabis is known for easing pain and medical symptoms.
