Villages in Northern Lebanon are pushing for the legalisation of cannabis crops as the nation faces its worst financial crisis in history.
With unemployment now over 30 per cent and the Lebanese currency losing 80 per cent of its value in just over six months, estimates indicate if current trends continue, more than half the population will be living in poverty by the end of the year.
Lebanon is currently the world’s third largest producer of marijuana resin and has an ideal climate for cannabis plants which require very little upkeep.
The Lebanese President has signed an order paving the way for a change in legislation to make legal the agricultural production of the plant.
