In US news and current events today, 170+ people had their records expunged in 3 hours at this clinic in Baltimore, MD
‘To have corporations and states collecting taxes and making money off of marijuana when there are still people serving life sentences tryin’ to feed their families off of marijuana, it’s just disingenuous.’ Ray Kelly, Director, Citizens Policing Project
The cannabis company Curaleaf, in partnership with cannabis social justice nonprofit Possible Plan held an expungement clinic to assist those in the Baltimore area who have been impacted by America’s drug laws.
More than 200 people showed up to have their records expunged. Of the 200+ people who showed up to get their records wiped clean, 173 people, the vast majority of whom were Black men, were successfully able to do so.
‘You know, when we first started working on Possible Plan, which was one of the first agendas we had at Select almost a year ago when many of us joined, one of the first pieces of feedback we heard was, ‘You’ve gotta go touch the people and you’ve gotta go learn and see what’s really happened.’ And these moments are where you feel that, and you see that, and you really understand the absolute damage that has been caused, and how these incredible people are trying to use whatever avenue they can to create that change.’ Jason White, CMO, Curaleaf
The 3-hour event was held at Liberty Rec & Tech Center in the Central Forest Park section of Baltimore.
